Hong Kong is expected to be the most-visited city in the world in 2019

Hong Kong is expected to be the most-visited city in the world in 2019.

It has been predicted by Euromonitor International that the Asian region is expected to have over 26 million arrivals by the end of the year, a little down from 29,262,700 arrivals in 2018.

Bangkok, Thailand came in second place with an expected 25,847,800 arrivals in 2019, compared to 24,177,500 arrivals in 2018, whilst London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, is expecting 19,559,900 arrivals by the end of the year, up on 19,233,000 arrivals in 2018.

Croatia, Slovenia and Sweden have climbed up the list whilst Milan and Vienna dropped down the list.

Euromonitor said: "They are proving popular as travellers seek newer, more localised experiences and less crowded locations. The popularity and increased number of low-cost carriers to these destinations has also favoured growth of previously less explored destinations."

The projected top 10 includes Macau, Singapore, Paris, Dubai, New York City, Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur, with Istanbul, Turkey rounding off the top 10.

Thailand and India both featured high in the list, with Phuket and Pattaya making the top 20 for the south east Asian country, whilst Delhi and Mumbai appearing for India.
