Ben Youngs out for months

England scrum half Ben Youngs has been ruled out for four months after suffering knee ligament damage against Italy on Sunday.

The Leicester star picked up the injury during the 46-15 win in Rome and will now miss the rest of the Six Nations after scans revealed a rupture of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

England had already called up Richard Wigglesworth of Saracens in anticipation, but now the severity of Youngs' injury has been announced.

The 28-year-old is due to have a further assessment this week, but it looks as though he is facing at least four months on the sidelines, which is a huge blow for both England and the player.

Wigglesworth does have experience having picked up 27 caps, but has not played a Test since 2015, and Danny Care is the only other specialist scrum-half in the squad.
