Google's good news feature

Google's voice assistant can now bring good news on demand.

The company has released a new feature called 'Tell me something good' - both on your phone or with Google Home - which will provide summaries of recent positive tales.

Rather than just random acts of kindness, the development - which is only available in the US for now - will focus on stories about people having a positive impact and making progress for the world.

The news will come from the Solutions Journalism Network, a nonprofit organisation which pulls together positive stories from a variety of sources and outlets.

The company's co-founder Courtney Martin gushed over the news, and promised it wouldn't just be "reductive" stories.

She tweeted: "So proud of @soljourno crew for this: Just tell your Google Home/Assistant, "tell me something good," & it will draw from our archive of vetted stories on responses to social problems.

"And don't worry -- "good" doesn't mean reductive. You'll feel legit smarter about social change."
