Apple doubles suppliers committed to renewable energy

Apple has revealed it has doubled the number of suppliers promising to run on renewable energy.

The company revealed that a total number of 44 firms have committed to running their Apple production lines on 100% clean energy, which means the tech giant expects to have five gigawatts of renewable power in its supply chain by next year.

Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives. said in a statement: "We've made it a priority to hold our suppliers accountable to the same environmental standards we observe and hope that our collaboration will show others what is possible.

"We won't stop driving change within our industry to support the clean energy transition happening globally."

The company has been striving to run every part of its operations on renewable energy, and it achieved that last year when it revealed all its facilities would run on 100% clean power.

Apple has also been pushing to recycle its devices and build new poducts from the old ones, using disassembly robots to speed up the process.

It should be noted that while the number of suppliers vowing to switch to renewable energy has doubled, the 44 who have agreed is still a small number of their 770 suppliers across 30 countries.
