Uber launching Make My Train service

Uber is introducing a 'Make My Train' service in the US.

The new feature - which has been rolled out to communtors on Long Island Rail Road and Caltrain in New York and San Francisco Bay Area respectively - is aimed with helping the ride-sharing app's users plan their public transportation journeys.

The company - which had noticed people searching for stations late at night while seemingly planning a trip for the next morning - explained: "Now when riders enter a train station on participating systems as their destination in their Uber app, they will automatically be prompted to 'Make My Train.'

"This feature then allows riders to see train schedules at their station and to select the train they want to make based on real-time transit data. "Riders then choose how long before the train leaves they'd like to arrive at the station, confirm, and Uber does the rest - ordering your Uber for you."

The firm explained the service will take "four easy steps", with users having to enter the station name as their destination, choosing the train they want to take, selecting a target dropoff time, and then schedule a ride.

There is no news yet on whether the feature will be given a wider rollout.
