Spanish travellers exploring their own country

Spanish travellers are keen to explore their own country.

A study by Omio, an app which allows you to make train, bus and plane reservations across the world, has revealed that holidaymakers from Spain have turned their backs on the likes of Venice, Paris, Florence and Rome and instead and considering travelling to destinations in their own country.

Madrid, Valencia and Bilbao maintained their good position in the list from the previous year whilst Marbella has moved four up the list. Barcelona has dropped three places whilst Granada fell five places too, with people, instead, heading to coastal destinations.

Matalascañas, Almería and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, all of which are coastal destinations, moved up the list whilst Chipiona is the highest new entry at 10th place on the the list in 2020.

Julian Persaud, Commercial Director of Omio, said: "Although travel will continue after the pandemic, it is fascinating to analyse the behaviour of travellers. Identifying your preferences as early as possible is very important to planning for the future. We are determined to continue working on a tool that allows travelling to any destination in the world, with just one click and without the need to use other windows or public information points."
