Berlin is the most sustainable city in the world

Berlin is the most sustainable city in the world.

The capital of Germany has been named as the best place in the world to visit for a sustainable holiday, with Vienna, Austria and Munich, Germany coming in second and third place respectively.

The 50 cities were selected based on eight different categories including their accessibility by train, public transportation available, if they had low car ownership or not, the amount of green space they had, the ratio of locals to tourists, the cleanliness of their air, their use of renewable energy and recycling.

Tourlane's Senior Travel Product Manager, Arlett Walleck, said: "As a carbon neutral company that offsets the carbon emissions of our travelers and our team, we believe that sustainability is more important than ever when planning trips and traveling.

"We're seeing an increasing number of travellers choosing to spend their vacations in an environmentally friendly way and seeking out destinations outside of the typical tourist circuit."
