Chelsea star Joao Pedro hopes to earn 'dream' World Cup callup for Brazil

Chelsea star Joao Pedro hopes to earn 'dream' World Cup callup for Brazil

Joao Pedro says representing Brazil at the 2026 World Cup is his "biggest dream".

The 24-year-old forward has impressed since joining Chelsea from Brighton over the summer, and he admitted he wants to have a great season not only for his club, but also to get closer to his ambitions with the national side.

He told FourFourTwo magazine: "That's my biggest dream. Representing Brazil in a World Cup is my next career goal, and I can only achieve that if I'm doing very well at my club.

"That's why I've been trying to prepare so hard - I'm extremely focused this season."

Pedro - who has six caps to his name since 2023 - has also taken advice from Chelsea and Brazil legend Thiago Silva, who gave the young star tips about how diet can help his longevity in the sport.

He laughed: "How can I disagree with The Monster? He's an enlightened person - very special indeed.

"He showed me that side of caring about the details in my daily life and warned me about never thinking that things are good enough, about always wanting more.

"He lives and breathes football - it's no coincidence that he's still been able to play at a high level with Fluminese, even at 41 years old.

"Even today he's still one of the best defenders in the world, so he knows what he's talking about."

Before started a three year spell with Watford in 2020, Pedro began his senior career with Fluminense the previous year, having risen through their youth ranks, but he didn't cross paths with Silva at the club.

Now with Chelsea, the forward is also hoping for collective success on the pitch after capturing the Club World Cup over the summer.

He said: "We want to win everything we compete for.

"That's what I always say: anybody playing for a team the size of Chelsea has an obligation to go into every single competition aiming to lift the trophy at the end of the season."
