The luxury vehicle maker say the Pop.Up Next will "solve traffic problems in cities" by converting from a car to a drone when needed.
It is a joint effort from Audi, Italdesign and Airbus - who will debut the plans at the Geneva Autosalon from 8 to 18 March. The interior the car come drone will feature a 49-inch screen and is controlled using speech and face recognition, eye-tracking and a touch function.
Dr. Bernd Martens, Audi Board Member for Procurement and President of Italdesign, said: "Creativity is needed where new mobility concepts for cities and people's diverse needs are concerned. Italdesign is an incubator for innovative technologies and radical prototyping. Pop.Up Next is an ambitious vision that could permanently change our urban life in the future."
Whilst Jörg Astalosch, CEO of Italdesign, added: "Various players will define the rules of urban mobility in the future. We are proud to collaborate with Airbus, the leading company in the aerospace industry, to investigate solutions for future mobility ...
"Last year Pop.Up marked a new - and as we believe highly significant - chapter in the transportation sector by bringing together two worlds, road mobility and air transport, which had never previously met. The close cooperation with the premium brand Audi confirms that the project could become the standard bearer for future mobility, based on new technologies, sustainability, digitalisation and urbanization; all sectors in which Audi is a leading company. These are also the pillars that underpin Audi's strategy and are fully embodied in Pop.Up Next. So we are proud having been asked to show this idea as Audi - engineered by Italdesign, following our Human Centred Design and Engineering approach."
