It has been claimed that shipments of phones using the technology could hit incredible heights next year, with financial services firm IHS Markit suggesting it could hit 10 times the amount forecast for 2018.
Visuals under the display "allow phones to have full-screen displays with an invisible fingerprint feature", the company added in a statement.
The prediction comes as firms like Apple, Huawei and Samsung have focused on phones with edge-to-edge displays, and a fingerprint reader built into the screen would certainly help with that.
However, the only two phones currently available to buy that include the technology are the Vivo X20 Plus UD - sold primarily in China - and the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS, which is a limited-edition model featuring three cameras on the back.
That said, iPhones and Samsung phones have been rumoured over the past year to be adding the technology.
IHS Markit's director of touch and user interface, Calvin Hsieh, added: "With Vivo and Huawei recently launching several models with the under-display fingerprint solution, it is certainly rising as a new trend."
