Facebook investigate after Instagram Influence data breach

Facebook are carrying out an investigation after the private data of almost 50 million Instagram influencers was leaked online.

The photo-sharing app's parent company has issued a statement to reassure users of their social media networks that they are looking into the database leak, which saw phone numbers and emails shared.

The leak was traced to the Indian firm Chtrbox, who pay influencers for sponsored posts.

In a statement Facebook said: "We're looking into the issue to understand if the data described - including email and phone numbers - was from Instagram or from other sources.

"We're also inquiring with Chtrbox to understand where this data came from and how it became publicly available."
