Canada is one of the fastest growing destinations in the world

Canada is one of the fastest growing destinations in the world.

There has been a huge rise in searches for Canadian cities including Winnipeg (465 per cent), Saskatoon (425 per cent), Regina (400 per cent) and Halifax (365 per cent), Expedia's 2020 Trends in Travel report has revealed.

Japan is also a popular destination including Naha/Okinawa (45 per cent), Sapporo (40 per cent), Tokyo (20 per cent) and Osaka (20 per cent).

When it comes to visiting specific places, searching for Universal Studios Hollywood Admission in Los Angeles, California is expected to rise a whopping 350 per cent whilst the Robot Restaurant Show in Shinjuku, Tokyo (220 per cent increase) and Chichén Itzá Admission, Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico (125 per cent) also showed some increases, too.

Christie Hudson, Head of PR for Brand Expedia North America, said: "When we looked at where travellers went in 2019, we saw that the biggest growth in demand was happening for destinations that aren't the usual tourist hotspots. For example, instead of Venice or Rome, the top trending Italian destinations were in Sardinia and the Italian Riviera. We hope this report shines a light on new places to explore and inspires people to start planning their travel for 2020."
