Nick Kyrgios wants Novak Djokovic to keep on playing tennis

Nick Kyrgios hopes Novak Djokovic carries on playing tennis "for as long as possible".

The 24-time Grand Slam winner reached the semi-finals of all four majors last year despite playing a reduced schedule and Kyrgios thinks that the Serb's efforts should be admired by those in the sport.

The former Wimbledon runner-up told the Sydney Morning Herald: "There's obviously something there that he wants to achieve, whether it's another Grand Slam or something else.

"But I think we should just cherish the fact that someone that old in our sport is still at the top and still gives everything to it.

"The longer we have guys like this around, the better it is for our sport."

Kyrgios believes that there has been a "void" in men's tennis since Djokovic's rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal retired and says that the former world number one quitting would truly be the end of an era.

The Australian ace said: "I feel like there's been a void in the sport ever since Federer and Nadal left... and obviously when Novak goes, that era is completely gone. I want him to stay for as long as possible."

Djokovic, 38, revealed last month that retirement wasn't on his agenda and even suggested that he could still be playing at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

He told the World Sports Summit in Dubai: "The LA Olympics is a guiding star. There's no limit.

"I love competing. As long as I feel good, my body holds up, and I play at a high level – why not?"

Djokovic added: "I'm still contributing to tennis. Big changes are coming, and I want to be a part of them."
