Canadians like adventurous holidays

Canadians like to go on adventurous holidays.

Residents of the North American country like to head on exciting trips rather than settle for beach stays or other relaxed activities.

According to the 2019 Expedia Family Travel study, there was an increase in adventurous holidays among parents under 40 with destinations like Costa Rica, Kahului and Auckland popular with holidaymakers.

And three quarters of people (75 per cent) said that family time was the most important part of the trip and making sure there were activities for all ages was crucial too to ensure there was something for all generations to do.

Jennifer Callegaro, senior marketing manager for Expedia, said: "Managing a budget is important for travellers and families are no exception. Our survey found that the extra costs can arise with family travel is the number one challenge for 42 per cent of Canadians. As a parent, I try to book as many elements of our trip together before we leave. This helps not only manage our itinerary all in one place, but also manage our budget."

Three fifths of parents also insisted educational and environmental factors were important too. And for larger families, there was an emphasis on the holiday being knowledge-influenced, with dads more likely to include educational aspects into a trip.
