Ludvig Aberg 'overwhelmed' in Ryder Cup debut

Ludvig Aberg was “overwhelmed” during his debut Ryder Cup.

The 25-year-old golfer made his debut in the competition just three months after turning professional in 2023 and he admitted nothing could have prepared him for the intense atmosphere.

He told Golf Monthly magazine: “In college, we don’t really play in front of crowds, so it was a brand-new deal for me.

“I remember getting overwhelmed at times and having to take a couple of minutes for myself, just to breathe and to make sure that I was okay.

But the Swede felt “fortunate” that the tournament took place in Italy, giving Europe an advantage over their US rivals.

He added: “I was fortunate that my first Ryder Cup was at home, so the majority of the fans were rooting for us, and that made it a bit easier.”

Despite amassing a wealth of experience since the Ryder Cup, Ludvig has still never experienced an atmosphere on the same scale.

He added: “That crowd made us feel like we were rock stars as we walked up to the tee boxes, and not only had I never experienced that before, but I have not felt it since then either.

“Even in a Major Championship you don’t get that atmosphere.”
